With one site online with its 30-day trial and a host of others waiting in the wings, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval commented to Nevada media that he has already held preliminary talks with other states for compacts to expand the player pool. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal ’s Howard Stutz , Sandoval admitted Thursday that he has been in discussion with other state governors on opening up Nevada’s online poker system to include players from their states. “I’ve talked with a few governors and I’m introducing the concept of compacting,” Sandoval said to the Nevada media following a tour of BMM International, a gaming testing site for the state.

The $25,000 buy in event, while it might have lacked in numbers for its start at noon on Saturday, didn’t lack for quality on the tables. Along with the champions from the Season XI schedule that included current WPT Player of the Year leader Matt Salsberg , Paul Klann , defending WPT World Champion Marvin Rettenmaier , Noah Schwartz and WeiKai Chang , such notables as Tom Marchese , Dan Shak , Daniel Negreanu , Jake Cody and Barry Schulman (who used a satellite to get into the tournament with his wife Allyn ) were at the tables from the opening gun

A bill that would shut down social poker rooms in Oregon had its preliminary debates earlier this week, with both sides of the situation showing up in force to discuss that legislation. This year’s $25,000 tournament features a few wrinkles thrown in that should make for an intriguing event. Starting with 100K in tournament chips, players will be allowed late entry within the first eight levels of play which, according to the WPT structure, should allow for players to enter up to 5PM on Day Two.
